Editorial: Understanding health system resilience to inform recovery planning in Ethiopia’s Tigray region

In this East African Journal of Health Sciences editorial [opens new tab], Mengistu Hagazi Tequare et al explores health system recovery planning in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.

Tigray has seen three catastrophic protracted conflicts in less than 50 years, of which the most recent started in November 2020. Tigray is also affected by drought roughly every 3 to 5 years and other climate-related shocks including frequent desert locust invasions, as well as local outbreaks and global pandemics such as COVID-19. Supporting the recovery of a health system after such trauma involves several activities to restore functionality and improve health outcomes, outlined in this editorial.
